Useful information in English for International Students in CAU Kiel!
Softwares and Connections
While your studies, you will need to be familiar with some softwares and pages used at the University. Pay attention:
STU ACCOUNT AND WI-FI
To use wi-fi from CAU you need the data provided during your first weeks.
To activate your account (in case you did not do yet), follow these instructions.
The connection is the same for all the buildings of the University, including the library. Look for „CAU“ in your internet connections and login in. Remember to use your login account WITHOUT the word mail. So, it would be like this:

OLAT
OLAT is the online platform used to register for most of the courses. Here is the link.
For some courses it is mandatory to pre-register to attend. On OLAT you can also check the information about the course, see the dates related, access the material provided by the lecturer, among other very useful things.
OLAT also provides a chat where you can know and talk to people that are registered for the same courses.
To login, use your stu account (stuXXXXXX) and password.
You can mark your favorite courses, check which ones you are registered (Meine Kurse) and look for a course using key words (Suchen).
UNIVIS
UNIVIS is the online platform that you use to have information about the available courses and details about dates, lecturers, rooms of the lectures, events and others. This page is provided in English, too. The details about Lektorat (German classes) are also here.
Select what you want to search for and try the key words to find.
WEBMAIL CAU
Here you can login with your CAU account. This is your official e-mail while studying at CAU. For more convenience, you can have all your e-mail automatically forwarded to another mail account (gmail, yahoo, etc.). Nevertheless, keep in mind for replying to an e-mail, that many professors or University's administratives do not reply to unofficial e-mails. This means that to write an e-mail. you should log into your student account and write the e-mail.

There is the possibility to use English as language for your e-mail.
QIS
QIS is the online platform that you use to register to exams and see your marks. You can also cancel the exams that you registered for, in case you need. But, remember: there is a period for this registration! Do not miss it! You will know about it, do not worry!

There is also the option to use it in English. Use your stu account (just stuXXXXXX) and password to login.
IT SERVICE
In case you need the IT support, there is information here (only in German).
But, basically, this is the contact and office hours. So, if you need its help, just contact them!

VPN
A VPN is a software that allows you to connect your computer as if you were connected to the Universitie's network. This means that it is mandatory for using some of the university's services, like accessing many digital librarys or documents for some faculties' lectures, while being connected into your home or another network outside the university.
