Registration Office

Foreigners as well as German citizens have to inform the appropriate Residents Registration Office about their address immediately. And, everytime you change your address, do not forget to register your new one.

In Kiel you have to register at:

Einwohnermeldeamt der Stadt Kiel (Residents Registration Office of the City of Kiel)

(City Hall, room 176) - Fleethörn 9, 24103 Kiel.

We prepared a video of how to get there, watch it:

Opening hours:

Monday and Tuesday 07:30 – 16:00 hrs

Wednesday 07:30 – 12:00 hrs

Thursday 07:30 – 18:00 hrs

Friday 07:00 – 12:00 hrs

After 12:00 hrs. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, you can only attend with an appointment. You can book the appointment here (unfortunately only in German).

For registration you have to present a registration sheet (“Wohungsgeberbescheinigung” - since 11/2015, which you get with your land lord/lady). We advise you to arrive very early... because sometimes there are many people and you will lose a lot of time waiting.

The City Hall is located in the center of Kiel at the “Kleinen Kiel” and can be reached by bus no. 62 or 91 from the International Center.

There are two possibilities to go inside the building, but the one above (the address) is the easiest one. You will go inside and see some coaches, TV screens showing the next turn numbers and, probably, people waiting.

So, you need to go inside of one room that will be opened (if it is between the times above) and tell them that you come to register. Then, a number will be provided; wait until your number is displayed on the screen and walk into the desk indicated in the screen. They can speak English, so probably you will have no problems.
