Important dates

DATE ON THE ADMISSION LETTER

Your admission letter states several dates in which you can register for the semester. Some of us came for the first date and we had a lot of free time (almost one month) without knowing anyone in the city and not much to do, which made those days a little difficult.

Nevertheless, if you still don’t have your housing defined, it could be helpful to come some weeks in advance to get a room before classes start.

In the section "First days in Kiel", you can find useful tips and information to ease the shock of getting into a new city and not knowing anyone yet.

MANDATORY INTRODUCTORY COURSES

Some of the Faculties give mandatory introductory courses to the students on the week before classes begin, if you are uncertain, contact the person in your admission letter or your Student’s Government for more information. The link to the Student’s organizations is here.

ORIENTATION INTERNATIONAL CENTER

The International Center will provide an orientation week for you, you will get more information on the dates and places when you register. The orientation week is a great opportunity to meet international students and do additional activities on your first days, so we strongly recommend you to go and ask as many questions as you have.

HOLIDAYS

In Kiel there are not many holidays, but everything is also closed on those days. If you are arriving just ask the International Center for the official dates, to be on the safe side.

We found this website about public holidays, which might be helpful but it is not an official one.

TIP:

Try to come a little before the initial time stated on the letter, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time in the queue.
