Housing for help (Wohnen für Hilfe)
If you like to help people and are concerned about your budget, this is a perfect option for you!
The Studentenwerk has a program called “Housing for help” (Wohnen für Hilfe in German). The program works as follows:

Apply if you are interested and they will search for available options.

For each square meter of the room, you will need to help 1 hour per month the person that is hosting you, in a previously agreed activity (such as going to the grocery store, walking their dog, etc.). So, for example, if your room is 16 m2, you will help 16 hours a month.

No rent or a very little one is paid in exchange, mainly to cover for the services expenses (water, heating, electricity, etc.).
